Fresh Asparagus with Lemon

3pounds (1.4 kg) fresh asparagus, trimmed
1/3cup (80 ml) fresh lemon juice
1tablespoon (15 ml) finely grated lemon zest
freshly ground pepper to taste
  1. Place the asparagus in a steamer basket over a pot of simmering water. Steam, covered, until tender, about 7 minutes. Drain.
  2. Sprinkle with lemon juice and lemon zest. Season with pepper and serve at once.
