Many of you have expressed the need to travel, but are fearful of going great distances. We both travel a lot, here and abroad, and have no problems in keeping our diabetes under tight control with meals away, travel delays, and the normal stress that comes with traveling. It's important to spend quality time with your family and/or friends, and sometimes that's easier when we're away from our everyday life, job, and other responsibilities. Perhaps this is the year for you to become better acquainted with the travel possibilities of your own or your neighboring states? Search the Net for a state or local tourist board that's within an easy drive. It'll get everyone away from the TV set, out into the fresh air, and offers an opportunity to teach your children more about where they live.
In looking through an atlas, these getaway spots leaped out-our families and we have visited all of these places over the years. Each of these make a perfect base from which to take day trips to historical sites, national and state parks, museums, amusements, and so forth.
Many have been written up in previous travel articles. If not, there's plenty of additional information on them on the Net. We found two sites particularly helpful: www.100bestvacations.com and www.martlink.com. Once you've decided on your destination, the local Chamber of Commerce will be able to give you further information on day trips, and so forth. In most cases you can contact them by e-mail from the Internet.
